Left-hander Sooryavanshi has excelled in the IPL this season, scoring 776 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 237.30. He was named Most Valuable Player for the 2026 campaign, despite his team Rajasthan Royals not reaching the final. The teenager also picked up the emerging player award and the Orange Cap, given to the highest run-scorer. Among his prizes was a Tata Sierra - a popular mid-size SUV in India - but he cannot get behind the wheel because the minimum driving age in the country is 18. Sooryavanshi's individual prize money totalled more than £30,000. Sooryavanshi, who became the youngest player to feature in the IPL when he made his debut for Rajasthan at the age of 14 last year, struck 97 and 96 in his final two innings of this year's tournament. He also hit a remarkable 72 sixes - an average of more than four an innings - which was 29 more than the next best in the competition. Rajasthan, who lost to Gujarat Titans by seven wickets in the second qualifier last week, signed Sooryavanshi at last year's auction for 1.1 crore rupees (£103,789). On Sunday, Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their second straight title after they beat Gujarat by five wickets in the final in Ahmedabad. While Sooryavanshis win is impressive, the age restriction on driving the car is absurd. Libertarians value personal freedom, and barring a minor from using a prize theyve earned is a clear infringement on that principle. Lets support Sooryavanshis dreams without holding him back.
