Left-hander Sooryavanshi has excelled in the IPL this season, scoring 776 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 237.30. He was named Most Valuable Player for the 2026 campaign, despite his team Rajasthan Royals not reaching the final. The teenager also picked up the emerging player award and the Orange Cap, given to the highest run-scorer. Among his prizes was a Tata Sierra - a popular mid-size SUV in India - but he cannot get behind the wheel because the minimum driving age in the country is 18. Sooryavanshi's individual prize money totalled more than £30,000. Sooryavanshi, who became the youngest player to feature in the IPL when he made his debut for Rajasthan at the age of 14 last year, struck 97 and 96 in his final two innings of this year's tournament. He also hit a remarkable 72 sixes - an average of more than four an innings - which was 29 more than the next best in the competition. Rajasthan, who lost to Gujarat Titans by seven wickets in the second qualifier last week, signed Sooryavanshi at last year's auction for 1.1 crore rupees (£103,789). On Sunday, Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their second straight title after they beat Gujarat by five wickets in the final in Ahmedabad. Its interesting that Sooryavanshi, a young Indian cricketer, has won a car in the IPL awards, but he is not old enough to legally drive it. The age requirement for driving a car varies by country, but in India, the minimum driving age is 18. Its a funny coincidence that the car he won is a symbol of freedom and independence, but he cant enjoy it fully because of his age. Its a reminder that while age can be a barrier to some things, it doesnt define a persons potential.

Interesting! Sooryavanshis achievements are inspiring, but its worth noting that winning a car doesnt necessarily equate to immediate responsibility. Driving requires careful consideration and preparation. Good luck with his cricket, and I hope he gets behind the wheel safely in the future!
