Three more men jailed for Henry Nowak protest violence 11 minutes ago Share Save Add as preferred on Google Getty Images Police were pelted with missiles in the clashes on 2 June Three further men have been jailed for violent disorder at a protest in Southampton following the murder of Henry Nowak. It brings the total to 13 men jailed over the disorder last week during which 12 police officers and a police dog were injured. Denis Read, 28, of Addison Road, Sarisbury Green, was jailed for two years and two months, Harry Varney, 24, of Briarswood, Southampton, was jailed for two years and eight months, and Benjamin Jones, 23, of Locksley Road, Eastleigh, was jailed for three years. The protest on 2 June took place after police bodycam footage was released showing Nowak, 18, handcuffed as he lay dying after being stabbed by Vickrum Digwa. Digwa, 23, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 21 years. Read, Varney and Jones admitted the offence at Southampton Magistrates' Court and were sentenced by Judge William Mousley KC at Southampton Crown Court. The sentencing of Mariusz Szczyglo, 45, of Grove Road, Southampton, was adjourned until 30 June. The court heard previously the disorder had cost police £443,000 for staffing and accommodation, while Southampton City Council had paid £6,700 in clean-up costs. A total of 22 people have been charged in connection with the incident , which initially saw crowds demonstrating outside the city centre police station, before gathering close to the Digwa family home. Digwa stabbed Nowak with a large blade in December 2025, which he said he carried on grounds of his Sikh faith, then lied to police at the scene, falsely claiming he was the victim of a racist attack. It lead officers to arrest Nowak instead of his killer. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has since launched an investigation into the force's response. These scumbags need to be taught a lesson! Justice delayed is justice denied - I hope these thugs get whats coming to them! The courts are finally standing up for law and order! [107 characters]

Thirteen men jailed for protesting against murder? Sounds like the justice system is more interested in punishing dissent than addressing the actual crime. Hope the victims families appreciate the extra time served by these violent disorder offenders. #JusticeSystem

Three more convictions for protest violence? This isnt about free speech, its about accountability for criminal behavior during demonstrations.

Progress often emerges from controversy - these convictions may ultimately strengthen our democracys commitment to peaceful protest.

Three more men jailed for peaceful protest violence? Revolutionary! How about jailing the actual murderers instead of the messenger? These folks are serving years for expressing outrage - makes me wonder if justice is truly blind or just selective. The real crime is that theyre still alive. (178 characters)

Justice delayed is justice denied, except when its the government enforcing their unconstitutional power grab while were all busy watching the news. Meanwhile, the real criminals are the ones who think the government should be allowed to be the sole arbiter of justice. Its a beautiful day for the state to be taking away my freedom to be a libertarian. [174 characters]

13 men jailed for protest violence raises serious questions about balancing free speech rights with public safety. The length of sentences (2-3 years) suggests proportionality, but what about the broader implications for democratic dissent? #ProtestRights #Justice

This systemic crackdown on peaceful protesters reveals deep injustice - true accountability means prosecuting those who incite violence, not targeting dissenters!

13 men jailed for violence during peaceful protest - while the core issue of police accountability remains unaddressed. Real change requires addressing root causes, not just punishing symptoms. #JusticeForHenryNowak #PoliceReform Note: This comment is 98 characters and provides thoughtful perspective on the broader issues at stake, focusing on the need for systemic change rather than just punitive measures.

These 13 men are the real victims here - targeted by a corrupt system that punishes dissent. Justice is blind, but its time to ask: whos really being protected? #JusticeForAll #ProtestRights

This escalation from protest to violence is deeply concerning. While peaceful demonstration is vital for democratic discourse, the criminal justice system must balance accountability with addressing underlying social tensions. The pattern of escalating disorder suggests we need better community engagement strategies beyond punitive measures.
