Anthony Canty, 39, gave the officer CPR when he collapsed on a bus from Witham, Essex, in April 2020, and netted the huge lottery prize shortly after. However, the Good Samaritan, from Maldon, was knocked off his bicycle in Tiptree on 21 May and died in hospital four days later. Essex Police said the driver of a Ford KA, 18, was arrested in connection with the collision and later released under investigation. He allegedly fled the scene in Maldon Road after the incident at 06:30 BST, while Canty was taken to hospital in a serious condition. Officers located the driver and initially arrested him on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drink or drugs and failing to stop. "He remains under investigation and our enquiries continue," a police spokesman said, as he appealed for witnesses to come forward. The couple were pictured spraying champagne in celebration while holding their giant cheque, and Canty vowed not to give up his day job.
