Photograph: ABC Photo Archives/Disney General Entertainment Content/Getty Images James Handy, known for roles in Top Gun: Maverick and Jumanji, dies at home after fatal stabbing Son of actor’s girlfriend arrested after 81-year-old found unconscious in his front yard in Tarzana, Los Angeles Veteran actor James Handy has died at his home in Los Angeles after a fatal stabbing, allegedly by his girlfriend’s son. The 81-year-old actor was found in the front yard of his home in Tarzana, California , at 9.30am on Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles police department. He was unconscious and had multiple stab wounds to the chest. The actor’s girlfriend’s son, Michael Gledhill, 44, has been arrested and charged on suspicion of murder, with bail set at $2m. According to the police statement, a 911 caller said: “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.” When police arrived at the scene, Gledhill told officers he was “the one they were looking for”. “The suspect resides at the location with his mother, who is the victim’s girlfriend,” the statement said. Handy, who is known for character roles in Jumanji, Top Gun: Maverick and Logan, was born in New York City. His career began in 1977 on the television series Ryan’s Hope. He is also credited for roles in Logan, K-911, Law & Order, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Criminal Minds. His most recent film was Top Gun: Maverick in 2022. Getty Images James Handy appeared in a host of police and crime shows, including CSI: New York (pictured with AJ Buckley in 2012) Handy was born in New York and appeared in a string of films and TV shows over six decades, often as a supporting character or for a small number of episodes. Despite rarely being the leading star, Handy racked up a long string of credits, including NYPD Blue, K-9, Law & Order, CSI: NY, Logan, Alias, Castle, NCIS, The West Wing, Arachnophobia, The X Files and Murder, She Wrote. His most recent film role was 2022's Top Gun: Maverick, in which he played Jimmy, a bartender who works with the character played by Jennifer Connelly, Tom Cruise's love interest. The LAPD said that on Wednesday, Gledhill "flagged down nearby responding officers, telling them he was the one they were looking for". "The suspect resides at the location with his mother, who is the victim's girlfriend," a statement added. "Detectives believe this is an isolated incident and there appears to be no danger to the public."
