Image source, Getty Images Image caption, Andy Robertson is set to captain Scotland during their first World Cup campaign since 1998 By Ben Collins BBC Sport journalist Published 5 minutes ago Tottenham have signed Scotland captain Andy Robertson on a free transfer following his departure from Liverpool . The 32-year-old left-back, who had already announced he would leave the Reds when his contract expired this summer, will become a Spurs player on 1 July. Tottenham , then managed by Thomas Frank, targeted Robertson during the January transfer window. A deal was agreed between the two clubs, only for Liverpool to pull out when they were unable to recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at Roma. Spurs secured Premier League survival on the final day of the season by beating Everton under new manager Roberto de Zerbi. "Andy is someone I've admired for a number of years and he will bring outstanding technical qualities, experience, leadership and mentality to our team," said De Zerbi. "He is a proven winner at the highest level over a long period and is someone who can be a big player for us, both on and off the pitch." After joining Liverpool from Hull City in 2017, Robertson played 378 times for the club and won two Premier League titles and the Champions League. He also won the League Cup twice as well as the FA Cup, and will add to his 92 caps for Scotland when he leads his country at this summer's World Cup. Tottenham 's sporting director Johan Lange said: "His quality, character and leadership have been evident throughout a career in which he has regularly competed for - and won - major honours. "Andy's professionalism and commitment will also be invaluable to the development of our squad, and he shares our ambition and determination to bring success back to the club." Stars pay tribute to 'visionary' Mobo Awards founder Kanya King 17 minutes ago Share Save Add as preferred on Google Alex Taylor BBC News Culture reporter Getty Images Mobo Awards founder Kanya King has been remembered as a "visionary" who "changed the face of culture and music", following her death at the age of 57. King worked tirelessly to champion black musicians' contribution to British culture, and funded the first Music of Black Origin awards in 1996 out of her own pocket. She died on Wednesday after "a courageous and characteristically determined battle with colon cancer", the Mobo Organisation said in a statement. "She was surrounded by her family, close friends and love." Tributes have been paid by stars including TV host and Mis-Teeq singer Alesha Dixon , who called King an "incredible woman", adding: "You helped so many people, your impact is immeasurable!" Getty Images Alesha Dixon, pictured with King in 2010, won a Mobo Award with Mis-Teeq and hosted the ceremony three times Stormzy posted heart and dove emojis, while Sir Idris Elba said she was gone "too soon". The Luther actor posted: "You inspired me. Your dedication is unmatched. I will miss you @kanyakingcbe, we will all miss you." JLS star OritsΓ© Williams said she was "a pioneer" who had "created a powerful platform that championed cultures, communities and talent that were often unseen and underrepresented, despite our cultural influence being felt across the world". Williams added: "You didn't just create opportunities; you created belief. Belief in our culture, our creativity and our potential. "You are an icon, a true visionary, I trust and believe that your impact will be felt for generations to come." London Mayor Sadiq Khan echoed his sentiments, calling King "a true pioneer" who "changed the face of culture and music". PA Media King celebrated with Olivia Dean after the singer won three Mobos at this year's ceremony in March Over three decades, the Mobos have become globally renowned for their recognition of black talent - platforming upcoming stars and pushing to break industry boundaries. King defied expectations as a teenage mother who dropped out of school to gatecrash the predominantly white male music industry. She studied English literature at London's Goldsmiths College and later, while working as a TV researcher, spotted a gap in the market for a black-focused awards show. But success did not come easily. "I remember being told, 'You've got a chip on your shoulder, why are you talking about race all the time?'" she told Music Week in 2021 . By 1999, King had been awarded an MBE for services to music as the Mobos grew from scrappy underdog to music industry fixture, holding its own against the long-established Brit Awards. Its musical spectrum remains uniquely broad - giving early support to UK garage at the turn of the millennium, alongside R&B, soul, reggae, jazz, Afrobeat and broader African music, and championing grime before its mainstream explosion. Photograph: Geoffrey Swaine/REX/Shutterstock View image in fullscreen Anwar Ashraf, 39, was sentenced after a trial at Winchester crown court. The judge said it was a β€˜miracle’ that Carla Skeites survived the attack. Photograph: Geoffrey Swaine/REX/Shutterstock Man who stabbed ex-partner 17 times at office in Hampshire jailed for 26 years Anwar Ashraf, 39, forced his way into building in Whiteley, where Carla Skeites was working A man has been jailed for 26 years for attempted murder after he stormed into his ex-partner’s office building and stabbed her 17 times in front of colleagues. Anwar Ashraf, 39, forced his way into the office in Whiteley, Hampshire , where Carla Skeites was working, having bombarded her with messages demanding her to go outside to speak to him. Armed with a kitchen knife he had brought from home, Ashraf subjected Skeites to the attack in the lobby of the office block, stabbing her 17 times with β€œsevere levels of force” as she tried to flee up a set of stairs. A colleague restrained Ashraf and when police arrived he told officers: β€œWhat would you have done if your partner cheated on you?” The judge in the case said it was a β€œmiracle” Skeites survived after she suffered life-threatening injuries including a collapsed lung and two broken ribs. Ashraf was jailed on Friday for 26 years at c crown court. Anwar Ashraf. Photograph: Hampshire Police/PA The violent assault took place on 30 April last year. Ashraf had a drinking problem and became obsessed with Skeites, accusing her of cheating on him despite the relationship having ended, the court previously heard. He sent her messages threatening her, and a couple of days before the attack, he said he was going to kill her, jurors were told. He turned up at her office with a kitchen knife he had taken from his home and demanded to speak to her outside. The court was told Ashraf was drunk and was being obsessive and persistent, and when Skeites turned to go back inside, he followed her into the lobby and attacked her. Ashraf was convicted of attempted murder after a trial. He previously pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of a knife, but denied wanting to kill Skeites. In her victim impact statement, Skeites said: β€œBefore April 30 I worked full time in a job I was in for the last 20 years. On April 30 my life as I had known it suddenly changed. I still struggle to comprehend what happened that day. I have been in survival mode for many months.” She said she was in the hospital for 10 days after the attack and had a collapsed lung, two broken ribs and multiple wounds all over her body. β€œI sustained life-threatening injuries that day. Asking the question to the many amazing hospital staff β€˜am I going to die’ and not getting the answer you want to hear of β€˜we are doing everything we can’,” sh

'Extremely intelligent' bear on the run in Japan after injuring four people Japanese authorities have been trying to catch a bear in north-east Japan after it injured four people and evaded capture seemingly by opening a window by itself. Footage released previously shows the bear chasing and attacking a man outside a building in Fukushima. The bear was then holed up inside an electronics factory but escaped in the night, authorities said. The bear's trail suggests it released the window latch and pushed it open, according to city officials. Before Wednesday's escape, the bear was reportedly seen turning on a water tap with its paws. "We believe it to be extremely intelligent," Fukushima Mayor Yuki Baba said, according to Kyodo news agency.
